Ubisoft announced that it has scrapped development on its Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake as well as five other titles including “4 unannounced titles, including 3 new IP’s, and a mobile title.”
Don't they have like 18,000 employees? What are they even doing over there? It's a remake, not a brand new, from scratch effort. They should have the resources to put out dozens and dozens of titles per year.
I guess endless meetings, DEI trainings, tik tok trend videos, and endless coffee/yogurt/sandwich bars distract from actual work.
Interesting to see Creative Houses getting full P&L ownership. The decentralized model could work if leadership teams actually have autonomy versus just added accountability. I've seen similar restructures in other industries that look good on paper but get undermined when HQ still controls budgets and timelines. The decision to scrap six games including PoP remake shows they're atleast being selective rather than releasing everything and hoping something sticks.
No Princess of Persia, the Menopause of Time? Bummer.
I'm surprised that they cancelled it. I really thought they were going to release that disaster of a game no matter what.
