You really should read The Elfstones of Shannara at least. That's the high point of the series (and I think a high point in fantasy). As well, with how the Sword actually works in the first book, it's pretty clear back then, whether he wanted to or not, Brooks was influenced by Christianity.
This series died with Brooks. The end.
