I'm not sure that this is the right place to post this but, the event that Charlie was supposed to be speaking at tonight has started and since I think we're all Christians here, I'm going to post the link. It's called the Truth and Liberty conference, and they're going to be honoring him
totalitarian - soldiers run through the streets actively oppressing and murdering the populace.
post-totalitarian - true believers who are looking to prove their adherence to "the cause," brainwashed by a state-run media, and escaping prosecution by a complicit judiciary are let loose to do whatever evils they can onto the populace.
The difference is that in the second, because it's always "lone wolves" doing the murders and attacks, the government gets to claim to be "for the people" and "disavows the attacks" (despite celebrating the people who do it, and do not prosecute anyone guilty).
Havel's Greengrocer puts up the "workers of the world unite" poster NOT because he fears a red-guard will shoot him in the head like what would happen pre-1950, but because he knows a "principled" and "true believing" communist neighbor will lock him in his store after hours and burn the business down for unsufficient "faithfulness" to the imperial religion.
In totalitarianism, the state murders you personally through it's uniformed agents. In post-totalitarianism, the middle age woman who watches state-run media all day tells her young, radicalized followers on social media to murder you because you're a "fascist."
to put it bluntly, that's state sponsored action by fatherless children as weapons.
twitch won't do anything because twitch exists JUST to make this possible.
the government won't do anything because they spent hundreds of billions if not trillions to make this EXACT environment.
