Sure, it was the 80's, when we were terrified of AIDS and incredibly wary of gay men, but of course everyone just loves Will and can't wait to celebrate him. There is no semblance of actual reality here.

That's the part that really mystifies me. Apparently, they didn't even bother to write any hesitation, despite the fact that it would have added a little interesting drama and 'character growth' into the scene, let alone having at least one character say "I don't believe in that hogwash, but we need to save the world." Nope, The Message must override any and all story potential.

It's fantasy. That's what it is.

Down Low fantasy

You are pointing out the worst part about this scene. So unrealistic. Even gays were afraid of others gays at that point. The spread of AIDS was so little understood that people were afraid to buy clothing at yard sales lest it carry the "gay" disease.

So true. It was a difficult time to be gay and very few people had any sympathy for anyone who caught AIDS. It was seen as sort of a "you asked for it because of your lifestyle" attitude.

I haven’t watched this dreck but it seems like they claim that Vecna would have won if Will was a heterosexual? Because gay magic or something?

Yes, they are claiming in order to beat Vecna, a Satan stand-in, he needed to embrace the sin of sodomy.

I had no interest in Stranger Things when it debuted and reading that makes me glad I wasn't hooked in. That is just stupid and demonic.

Blech. I applaud your dedication to watching that pollution.

"By the power of Gayskull!" Nothing like gaypower for defeating the evil crusty guy. If only Will had expressed his perverted self earlier, mayhaps they could have saved all of those poor folks in Hawkins.

He really went to a sodomite bar? That's hilarious. I bet they dressed it up like it was a happy ending.
