The original Spartacus is my favorite show ever. What makes this failure even more tragic is that a certain amount of diversity was baked into the concept. The Romans took slaves from all over the empire—Gauls, Celts, Punics, Moors, Britons... Spartacus himself was Thracian. There was even a certain amount of homosexuality in ancient Rome, so even that would not be totally out of place.
Thus, the producers of this spinoff, if diversity was their goal, really didn't have to make it so stupidly woke. But diversity wasn't their goal. Their goal was to demoralize and humiliate viewers like me. Unfortunately for them, viewers like me didn't show up.
Will they learn a lesson from this failure? Doubtful.
HOW ABOUT THIS INCREDIBLE EXPLICITLY CHRISTIAN show instead!?
In 404 AD, Telemachus entered the amphitheater during a contest and tried to physically separate the fighting gladiators, shouting for them to stop in the name of Christ.
The angry crowd stoned him to death (or he was killed by a gladiator, depending on the account) for interrupting the spectacle.
Moved by his martyrdom, the Christian Emperor Honorius issued a ban on gladiatorial fights, effectively ending the bloody games in Rome
even then its bad. Is the SARTCIUS version of Nolans Hellen of Troy who looks like a 40 year old welfare recipient and not a woman who moved thousands of men to go to war,
Hold the phone on this - why just the other day I saw almost exactly this thing happen. A small lady easily subdued 3 large overly aggressive males. She barely broke a sweat...or a nail.
This show failed b/c few if any women regardless of type (i.e. ethnicity) want this kind of content. It's as moronic as making a Bridgerton for men.
Now this may anger some but our society stopped being honest about things manly thanks to overt feminization and so we ended up encouraging more bad behaviors b/c of it. There MIGHT be a small market for something like this amongst the younger black female population considering how much they seem to like fighting with each other publicly in real life but the setting and story would need a drastic change. Instead of ROME the setting would ne to be modern day LA or Harlem and instead of it being female Gladiators it would need to be female gang leaders. Call its the QUEENS OF MAIN & STATE or something like that where its 2 or more rivalry gangs lead by females.
With the right kind of HONEST writing like what ABBOT ELEMENTARY delivers, and budget a show like that could work but it will never happen b/c it feeds into reality and not these made up narratives the Liberal Left and our government have created about certain groups. It still would not attack any of the crowd that the Bridgertons type of shows do but it also wouldn't need to if the thing is budgeted accordingly.
Propaganda like collectivist governance is an always financially failing endeavor b/c the real goal isn't monetary success but changing societal norms and perceptions. HOUSE OF USHER failed that p[art to else they would have happily funded 2nd season despite the 1st one not making any money in the way that networks rate streaming content as a success or not. Prior DEI crap like BATWOMAN proved. That trash was funded for 3 seasons.
Do we want to "give this new toilet a chance?" Maybe the stuff inside the toilet will be different this time - maybe the toilet will have "learned its lesson." (snort)
It’s not that they showed up, it’s that they eventually tuned out. And let’s face it, even if it’s central character is a woman, girls just aren’t into action series. It was never gonna make money. An incredibly obvious outcome.
Controversial comment: I didn't mind this show. It had a lot of really positive and fun moments, and the alternate history of Rome is whacky but kind of interesting. Achillia also repeatedly gets beat down, and that's something that really works for the narrative. She works for her victories, and the characters grow in depth as the show trundles along.
Where I think it lost a lot of people is in the space of unnecessary "adult" violence. There is this one episode in particular where two members of the Ludus try to physically assault the main character and she fights them off, slaying one in an incredibly graphic manner. The lead trainer, instead of saying the obvious which would be: two men tried to attack you, you fought them off, good job... proceeds to beat her down some more to make her prove herself.
It's just... indecipherable. And in the episodes that follow she doesn't have issues with her trainer who goes positively mellow for the rest of the show. Then there was the little people violence which, while at times played for true horror, also had some of that "hey, look it's midget being thrown against a wall!" energy about it.
As a comic-book energy show, it has its moments but I can definitely see parts of it where I'm left wondering just... why do that? It's not a argument about too much violence or to much adult content, it's just the characters don't make sense from episode to episode at some points.
Also the trailer... it really had so little to do with the actual content of the show.
Lionsgate are utter fools and deserve failure at this point. Its one thing when a network is saying "do this and we'll pay you for it" its another to then think what that network asked for and what epically failed is going to be workable anywhere else.

Oh look, another "This isn't for you" series. Thanks for letting us know, it'll save time and brain cells.
It must be nice to be able to waste money and get rewarded. If I wasted money, I'd be on the starving line.

So is Achillia fluent in three languages like every kick-ass black female CIA operative depicted on teevee during the last ten years?

Spartacus: Waffle House
I like it.
Anything by a major studio is toilet.
Do we want to eat out of the toilet?
Do we want to "give this new toilet a chance?" Maybe the stuff inside the toilet will be different this time - maybe the toilet will have "learned its lesson." (snort)
I don't wanna eat out of the toilet. No thanks.
Wasn't even on my radar.

The first two seasons of Spartacus were great! I don't know what this is...but I'm glad Ive never heard of it.

Looks like more black Greeks again! And a female gladiator? I think not!
If the audience was wrong they should have kept going!
Or are they saying the audience wanted the show to continue and they didn’t want to make the audience happy?
