I am not the target demographic of Slay the Spire 2, but supposing if Anita Sarkeesian was attached to a game that I cared about, say Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, I would be concerned to the point of refusing to play the game or refunding if I was allowed to unless her contributions were contextualized. If she contributed something that made the game better, incredibly doubtful as it were, that would be fine! A redemption arc for Anita Sarkeesian as it were.
Who knows Anita Sarkeesian could be a TCG afficionado from back in day with good ideas. Now suppose Slay the Spire 2 devs did something insane and brought on Magic the Gathering creator Richard Garfield that would probably give a near infinite multiplier to fan interest. I might even take a look. I certainly did when Valve announced his involvement with their failed game Artifact back in 2018.
Sarkeesian has had a detrimental effect on gaming by bringing in toxic femininity and successfully hijacked and damaged many video games setting the blueprint on how 'consulting' firms like Sweet Baby Inc could operate. Name dropping her brings horrible baggage in my opinion that I'll categorize into three scenarios where Sarkeesian ruined projects
1) blackmail game devs who just wanted to make a game to hiring them
2)appealing to the greed of investors with poor to no understanding of the core business they're throwing money at ESG
3) The worst, parasites that seek to turn something that unite people into demoralization and propaganda.
For those that managed to get through my block of text, why did I mention HoMM Olden Era? Jon Van Caneghem was name dropped being hired a consultant for the game and that's a big deal since he designed and even programmed the original game. From a successful demo and a brilliant early access, I can see his handprints in the game design, art, and UI design. That's how to do consulting properly!
As you already know, Mega Crit **has seemingly stated** that they hired her for "advice on purely gameplay mechanics"... but this is an obvious lie.
You don't hire one of the most notorious feminists on the planet for gameplay advice!
No! Of course not!
You do it to appease the torch wielding activists, that's why you do it. Mark my words: Sarkeesian went in with an objective, and we'll see those intentions made manifest, or Mega will suffer the consequences.
Just because a game is Independent doesn't mean a. they have great values and b. aren't secretly positioning themselves to get money from some major clownworld studio.
This game will most probably stay a success because players learned about it too late, but the studio's next game would be in the firing line, a real "catch me once shame on you, catch me twice shame on me" scenario.
It just makes no sense to me from a business sense. What benefit do they get bringing her in? I don’t believe for a second they are unaware of her negative baggage. The only thing I can think of is they thought it’d be a quiet launch and this would bring attention to them. That seems to have backfired royally, as it
If a dev wants to make some weird political statement, go for it, but they should be aware of the repercussions they’d suffer. The smartest thing to do is just stay apolitical. Which should be the easiest thing in the world for a freaking deck builder.
Anita Sarkeesian is already a major red flag for me.

Yeah this gets even weirder.
That would make sense if she were a famed game designer that just also had controversial opinions, but what brilliant games has she published?

I'm not spending a dime or minute on anything that evil grifter b**** has touched.
I can't believe she survived Gamergate. I figured she would be hiding in the shadows.
Looks like they bought the tickets to me. I actually know a lot of people who like this game though. They all happen to be raging SJW casuals.
