The very reason they were canceled, is because they were too good. This is how H-wood works.

If it doesn't push enough toxic message, it gets axed.

I feel like a broken record saying the same thing for fifty+ years and people still believe it's about accidental decisions or money.

Space Above & Beyond was friggin awesome! The kicker for me, I was working at Blizzard Ent at a cg artist, working on Starcraft 1 and Diablo. Nobody else there like the show cuz they thought it was too gritty!!! That pissed me off! I couldn't believe these twerps were making dark games and didn't like this show!!! Crazy!!!!!! I still haven't gotten over that! No one watched the show. I friggin loved it.

SGU also had more than one season. So at least two of your seven already got another shot, and blew it.

IMO, most people either liked both seasons or didn't like it at all. Those who says season 2 fell off may have a point but basically, I don't think it blew its shot. It did what it was trying to do and just wasn't popular enough.

I absolutely loved Space: Above and Beyond. It was a brilliantly written show, with an intriguing plot, very strong young actors with interesting back stories, crazy good special effects and a solid military feel to it. Sadly, Fox ended it after one season. The show had so much potential. So much better than most of the programming back in those days.

I was a huge Bab 5 fan so I dove headfirst into "Crusade". Show got the short stick, sadly. Gary Cole made an awesome captain and I wanted more.

"Journeyman" suffered from the writer's strike back then. The concept was great - a man who travelled back in time and it was never convenient. There was a larger story unfolding and it was just abandoned with the strike.

That 1999 Crusade logo reminds me of the original EverQuest (also 1999). Gotta love that late-nineties embossed medieval title style.

Well, SGU was trash, and the rest of these shoes don't sound so great, either. There's probably a reason they got canned. Eureka was okay until the main villain left the show.

I loved SGU :(

Season 1 may have benefitted from Scalzi's talented borrowing

Three more...

- REAL Battlestar Galactica, a show about faith, family, and friends in a story about survival against incredible odds.

- Blue Thunder, which pointed out the Militia movement in it's second episode before they became a thing, had drones in it's third episode, and had an anti-Communist lean in others. Hmmm, I wonder why it got killed?

(Fair dinkum--the technology of Blue Thunder, save for the turbo, was off-the-shelf even then, so if that disqualifies it from the list I won't argue.) Put in the suicide slot against CBS's Dullass for most of it's original run.

- Street Hawk, which had a promotional commercial at the Superbowl that got HUGE numbers...then the show got bumped to a mid-season slot because an ABC bigwig was queer for Craig T. Nelson and put his Call to Glory on instead. When it did air, the retards at ABC also put it in the suicide slot against Dullass.

Note that all three shows were on ABC...the All Bloody Communist-run network.

Yes! Terra Nova ended on such a cliffhanger. I was so upset 😭. Call cuz: the special effects cost too much

All hail Firefly, now on to the other shows. I agree with your assessment on some shows.

Space Above & Beyond, was enjoyable for it's complete universe and how it delt with prejudice against in vitroes and androids. The worst thing was the unrealistic concept of highly trained pilots also being sent on "grunt" missions.

Ascension was really messed up in a good way, lots of plot twists. Lots more story to tell there.

Crusade had potential, really enjoyed the haunted ship concept.

Never saw Debris or Starhunter.

Mckidd is a good actor, but Journeyman just didn't hook me.

I love steampunk, but hated McGiver, so could not get past Anderson to be able to give Legend a chance.

Since SGU was mentioned, that is the only Stargate series I liked precisely because it was different form the others. Of all of these it is the one I regret not getting another season of the most.

Thank you for mentioning the sadly overlooked Journeyman!!

I've always wondered what would have happened in season 2 of Space: Above and Beyond...

Even with Hamish McBeth, SGU needed to die or get the kind of reboot that saved STTNG from Rodenberry.

Journeyman was cool though, so I'll check out the others.

I loved Colony on USA. They axed it after three seasons and none of the storylines were ever resolved. I haven't watched any network or cable series since then unless they're steaming and have been completed with an actual finale.

I was also probably one of the few people that enjoyed Helix on SyFy. It started slow but the network cancelled it right about the time it was getting good.

Space: Above and Beyond was not only one of the best shows ever made, it was also one of the classiest. Dedicating "Sugar Dirt" to "Our Fathers and Grandfathers on Guadalcanal" was the height of respect for the military.
