My money is on Ben being alive inside of Rey’s body, the force dyad converged as one to save her. It goes with the mythology of the sequels, which included a lot of Carl Jung’s stuff, ending in the conjunction of opposites, symbolized in the broken-down staff of Rey, and the binding and burial of the two male/female lightsabers, as well as Luke/Leia risen in the end with the two women who represent the past and future.

The whole trilogy was about duality, with Ben and Rey as the animus/anima. It’s the alchemical wedding. That may be how she takes the name of the Skywalker lineage. The grandson and granddaughter of Anakin Skywalker and Sheev Palpatine may be merged.

In The Last Jedi, Ahch To island is mythologically similar to the garden of Eden in Genesis- the place of origin, with the tree of knowledge, the woman wanting the man to cover the naked body, taking from the tree with (sacred texts) knowledge of good and evil, and so on. To someone like George Lucas’s mentor, mythologist Joseph Campbell, the garden of Eden is all about duality. And there on the floor of the cave we see the Prime Jedi mosaic with its yin-yang play of opposites. It’s what Rey’s parents are about— male-female, and the scene where she asks to know her parents on Ahch To— she is in a field of opposites with the mirror images.

The realization for Joseph Campbell, who died in the 80’s, would have been that when she finally sees herself in the mirror, she does see her parent, beyond opposites— herself, same as Luke in TESB, who sees himself.

We see Luke look up at the moon as he reaches out to contact Leia. Luke and Leia are twin energies represented in other myths as the sun hero and the moon. That’s why in this myth, they were separated at the fall of the temple and fall into darkness.

I’m convinced so far that’s what’s happened to Ben. And I tend to think that Grogu’s surprise is that he’s also a combination of good and evil as they move him towards the movie after TROS. He may have been intended to be a bad egg as he aged, an asset of Palpatine, were it not for the influence of Mando.

To add to the Garden of Eden idea, the word Snoke/snok means snake. With all the duality in the series, he may have some relationship to the Prime Jedi pictured on the floor of the cave in the yin-yang symbol. That is, at some time in the distant past, as in other myths, light and dark became separated and in opposition to each other. The question then would be, “Are the first Snoke and the first Jedi two halves that split into sith and jedi, dark and light side, a force dyad?” Did they come apart into two the same as perhaps Ben and Rey merged into one?

Notice that on Ahch To, you also see the first or prime Jedi and the last Jedi. Again, duality.

Rian is now working on The Hunt for Ben Dover. But only because Rian likes to "ben dover" for any penis that comes his way.
