Actor Matthew Marsden, who played Stan in Prime Video’s Reacher series as well as Chris Collins in the popular British soap opera Coronation Street, explained his belief that Hollywood is dying.
100%. And he also ignores the rumble in the distance which is the approaching AI tsunami which will make it vastly easier and cheaper for people - good storytellers - to create stories. Distribution will be the critical factor for sure.
The social engineers are too interested in teaching you to entertain you. Thing is, this is one class you can skip. And that's what people are doing--in droves.
“Dying”? Hollywood was already “dying” 15 years ago, but it’s completely dead now. I just decided to see what movies are playing at the local cinema, and I recognized nothing, except for a Predator movie, and a re-release of “Back to the Future” and “Rocky 4”.
Hollywood is largely irrelevant now, and that’s a good thing.
Wokeness, streaming, covid, AI, sclerotic-minded executives, social media, offshore work...lots of reasons Hollywood is falling apart. Bean-counters versus creatives has been a familiar tension since the beginning, but the core of the business - studio film production & distribution - has been and still is changing so much that the entire system will have to reinvent itself.
I haven't been to a movie theater since Angel Studios put out Sound of Freedom and Mother Cabrini. Haven't watched any Hollywood movie since I took a kid I was nannying to see Assassin's Creed!!

Well, he's not wrong.
