Ryan Gosling’s “Project Hail Mary” opened to $80.5 million domestically this weekend, giving Amazon MGM its biggest opening ever and delivering the kind of crowd-pleasing theatrical win the studio has been chasing since it acquired MGM for $8 billion in 2022.
Maybe...just maybe they are starting to listen. We are speaking with our wallets. The success of War Machine and the excellent job done by Adam Ritchson (Despite his real-life ridiculous hyper-lib views) made me feel like I was watching a movie from twenty years ago and I loved that about it. I will go watch this as well. Gosling has grown into are really likeable guy & a compelling actor. Just the fact that a white male is the lead on this is enough to make me want to check it out. So sick and tired of all the virtue-signaling posturing from Netflix. I'm tired of being told that my whiteness/maleness make me automatically the villain.
Thankfully they haven't yet ruined everything. War Machine was proof of that. It turned my stomach to see what they've done with Mozart and Salieri, for example. Where are Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham when we need them!
Let's hope that Hail Mary & War Machine are the start of a beautiful Renaissance in Sci-Fi.
And Jon? Gotta tell ya, Brother Biostellar: Space Fleet Academy is SUPERB!! I can't stop bragging on it to all my friends, family and fellow Science Fiction aficionados. You are lifting everyone else up with your Herculean efforts.
Waiting until Thursday this week has been difficult. I just know this second upcoming book in the series is going to be enthralling! And bravo on the time-released schedule you and Vox have come up with, Sir. You keep writing 'em and we'll keep buying 'em. Keep on CRUSHING, Bro.
Saw it today. Bored to tears for most of it. Gosling's character is a low-delta with gamma tendencies, and the rest of the cast is unlikeable. Even the rock. Meanders all over the place.
