Collectors paying premium prices for special editions are learning the same lesson twice in one year: leatherbound and deluxe hardcover production is genuinely hard to execute at scale, and a lot of publishers taking Kickstarter money right now aren’t equipped to deliver on it consistently.

Old school Luddite and long-time skeptic of self-publishing that I am, I think these publishers would be better off pooling their resources by partnering up to create a press dedicated to these kinds of editions. A kind of Folio Society for genre works, with the expertise all gathered in one place.
Castalia has phenomenal books. The leather are premium quality. The hard cover and paperback books are also very well made.
I wish I could afford the Castalia sub. They release great looking versions of classics I'd love to have in their format, but the price keeps me away.
