this is a display of control as well as some kind of talmudic / kabbalistic ritual.

See also ryan reynolds forcing his daughter to talk about penises in her bit part in “deadpool and wolverine,” where he forced her to do 500 takes because she was crying and didn’t want to do it, and he kept telling her that he’s going to fire her and get someone else to take her dream away from her.

I would agree. Most stories it doesn’t serve the plot to put the graphic sexual stuff “on screen“… If it could’ve just been skipped.

I’ve seen plenty of movies where the characters share a quick kiss, less than a minute, and begin removing their clothes, and then cut scene to the next day. That’s good enough. Very likely the story could use greater editing, and that’s probably the scene that could stand to be cut.

How many movies have destroyed the actors marriages because they spent too many scenes making out and caught feelings for each other. Mr. and Mrs. Smith comes to mind. How many actors in Hollywood met their spouse on a movie they filmed together? Hundreds. And you never know what started it, perhaps the kiss they shared on set.

Patrick McGoohan was able to portray a British secret agent on one television series and then a prisoner on an island of former secret agents, his character had lots of opportunities for physical interaction with the opposite sex. But he would not allow it. His career did not suffer. A better time?

I agree that they treat kissing other peoples' spouses cheaply and unseriously, but I don't think you guys are reading the proper context here. It sounds a lot more like she's exaggerating -- like, they had to kiss so often that it felt like four hours -- and Gunn is trying to joke along with it.

I think Gunn has tricked a lot of conservative commentators into opposing a movie that hadn't even come out yet, looking uninformed after it did come out, and then feeling like they have to double down and complain about it like it's one of the worst superhero movies ever, even though it's fine. Not great, but not "an insult to Superman" or anything either. And the more we all bang on about this, the dumber and more stubborn we look. We should keep our powder dry for things that matter.
