What Nolan and Hollywood at large are doing here is tantamount to blasphemy, but on a cultural level rather than religious.
You cannot hate them enough simply because, as a human with dignity , respect, and a forgiving soul, you are incapable of hating these people the way that they hate you.
Nolan wanted the practical effects (actual boat) and was willing to comprise with everything else. A proper adapation would cost north of 1 billion dollars (rules, regulations,permits, consulants and coordinatorss etc). The studio wasnt willing to pay so cost were cut (hence no orchestra too expensive hence all the composers leaving).
250 million temu version. Hollywood has so much bloat from all the studios rules and union rules they cant make movies cheap (even when going overseas so much unnecessary redtape weighing everything down that taxcuts arent enough).
The executives will get paid regardless (pension funds and stockprice, insurance scams etc). Nolan gets his paydeal everyone else is working peanuts.
YOU GET WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY OR AFFORD. Hollywood cares about IP or Brand (valuable). Whilst cutting cost elsewhere (talent etc). Hollywood is a blaoted mess thanks to studios and unions as well as pure GREED.
A film that thinks Lupita NuGumbo has a face that launched a thousand ships, or 'Elliot' Page can pass for a serious warrior, deserves to be savaged at the box office--unfortunately, with Nolan's fan base, it probably won't happen...
