"Mr. Vance also when he founded his own venture capital firm, with help from Peter Thiel, named after a Lord of the Rings thing. He called it Narya, which you can remember because it's Aryan, but you but the N to the front?"
What about Rachel Maddow?
You can remember her because her name is just a scrambled "mad cow herald."
On a book famous for being written by a linguist who invented his own languages the news anchorette claims: "He [Vance] called it Narya [aka Gandalf's Ring of Fire; movie knockoffs are for sale], which you can remember because it's Aryan, but you but the N to the front?"
How to change your name to "Jane you ignorant [rude word]" without changing your name. Nice work Ms Maddow!
I always use objective good and evil in the TTRPGs that I run. The left wants to make everything subjective. No real good and no real evil. This is their attempt to take God out of the equation and instead insert the state as a god. It's the same thing the commies did in the early 20th century. There is no, my truth, regardless of what the left says. There is only objective truth and objective good vs evil and this is what they fear.
part of what has made me a little irritated the past four years is that many things I have been MY WHOLE life have recently been declared by people in the media as alt-right. Like my vaccine hesitancy for my kids when they were little. Back then, like the late 90s, I wondered why they needed so many shots all at once and found a doctor who would allow me to take 5 years to fully vaccinate them. No one hated me or called me names. I mean, I was the weird mom for sure, I didn't even let my kids watch TV, but still, I had friends. They even let their kids play with mine. And I voted for Al Gore in 2000.
Now, that hesitation makes me alt-right.
In the past year I've read that breastfeeding, homesteading, making your own medicine and beauty supplies, drinking raw milk, homeschooling (all things I've done and still do), and even my addiction to exercise is alt-right.
I've been voting Jill Stein since 2012, not sure how that all tracks.
But today, I am finally outraged at the insult. I'm sorry, but a line has been crossed. According to Rachel Maddow, lefty media queen of the century, LOTR now makes me alt-right, just because Vance and Theil like hobbits? OMG. I'm seeing red. LOTR is the myth of my childhood. I raised my children on that story. When I first moved to CA I had to re-paint my entire house and the kids, ages 6&8, would sit on the floor while I worked and told them the entire trilogy by heart (to be fair, I'd just re-read them myself, but still, I am that geeky).
No, LOTR doesn't make you a white supremist, nor Hitler, nor alt-right. Just full on stop.
You've lost me completely now. This is it. I'm serious. I must take a stand. Having people attack you at the most basic levels--my love of natural living, free-range food, the desire to be near my children and educate them myself when necessary, and now my devotion to hobbits, Gandalf, and the first love of my life, Strider--it's confusing, exhausting, and my brain can't take it. All things that once made me a tree-hugging hippie now make me MAGA?
I will take nothing seriously that a talking head ever says again. No one messes with Gandalf, I mean it.
I’m still not over those monsters saying things like this. Keep giving them the benefit of the doubt, on some level, you keep losing. I wish there weren’t people paid to be liars.
Rachel is just bitter because she and MSNBC weren't invited to the RNC Convention. She had to LARP in front of a green screen and pretend she was there. Just her and her chronic TDS.
Poor Rachel. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
Really: "...[the idea that] some races are just worse than others, or that some peoples are just worse than others. And this seems to me — in the long term, if you embrace this too much — it has dire consequences for yourself and for society."
You don't say. 2nd law of social justice strikes again.
J.R.R. Tolkein disagrees with your assesment of Lord of the Rings as beign either either a "right wing" or a "Christian" allegory. He says so explicitly in the foreword to "The Fellowship Of The Ring". If you see it as beign allegorical, thats just onfirmation bias in your head.
This is partly correct, and partly incorrect. While Tolkien did write at length about his distaste for allegory, he did state in his letters that “The Lord of the Rings is fundamentally a religious and Catholic work, unconsciously so at first, consciously in the revision.” Letter 142, to Fr. Robert Murray, SJ. Which is not the same as saying that it is an outwardly confessional or apologetic book, but one that partakes of a Christian and Catholic worldview, which was Tolkien’s own.
Absolutely Christian, and absolutely not right wing, come one. You shouldn’t put Christ and politics in one sentence. Shouldn’t bring him down to that level. It’s like left wingers who say Christ was a socialist. Christ is God. Lotr follows many of Christ’s teachings and also reflects many traditions of the old church.

Nice SNL reference

Good vs evil. Either evil exists or as some of my favorite Christian apologists say, “ it’s simply a matter of opinion”.
Why does "that's a man, baby!" pop into my head every time I see a photo of Rachel Maddow?

They are really struggling to sound relevant, let alone intelligent. “Grasping at straws” comes to mind.
"Right wing" my ass.

Hey Mr. Duncan. It's okay to be white.

Claiming to be into Lewis and Tolkien is easy enough for a politician, though many react like vampire to garlic.
Has there been a politician who claimed to be influenced by Mac Donald?
I'd be more impressed if they were influenced by Chesteron. Or Kipling :-)
I cotton to any politician who is influenced by anything other than Mammon. Also, surprised and suspicious.

Good grief, Rachel Maddow...
Also, orcs were fallen elves, I think, not a "race".
I remain a solid supporter of the wonderful LOTR trilogy of JRR Tolkein, my favorite books of all, next to the Bible. Wendy
