Travis Knight, the director of Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming Masters of the Universe film, recently shared more details about Jared Leto’s Skeletor describing him as “the embodiment of toxic masculinity.”
Such a fundamental misunderstanding of the character.
Skeletor is naturally funny/campy, frustrated and foiled by his worthless henchmen, narcissistic, cowardly, underhanded, and absolutely delights in being evil.
Aside from narcism, nothing else of that description reads "toxic masculinity." It's just a buzz word to these people and a concept that a "bad guy must be a bad man."
Skeletor is the single best MOTU character and an internet meme decades after the fact precisely because he is a one of a kind villain. We don't want him to beat He-Man, but he just takes so much joy in his work and so much frustration in his failures it's impossible not to like the guy.
It's funny, they spent so much effort the past 10-15 years "redeeming" villains, they can't appreciate a villain we actually love for being so villainous and irredeemable. They are completely baffled.
This movie will flop.
Now that Man-at-Arms is black, he's been renamed Man-with-Warrants.
Man-with-Illegal-Arms.

I'm expecting this to be as awful as Kevin Smith's pathetic attempt at deconstructing the MotU.
My money is on defeat by hugging a la Red Hulk and The Void.
Man that movie must have a massive budget for red flags... Does anyone still need convincing at this point?
I expect absolute garbage is on its way here.
