Actually, considering this individual and the people who are part of her close circle, I can very well imagine that to them it would be hell. It begs the question why they decided to have children in the first place and inflict their awful personalities and influence on their kids, but apart from that, yes, I can totally see this as a reaction of this type of people.

Whilst I enjoyed spending time with my kids more once they were, say, 5 +, I still remember with absolute joy the times I spent with them when they were younger.
My grandparents? The ones who were part of The Golden Generation that fought through WW2? Good lord, they had jobs, had 4 kids and from what I am told were still full of energy.
