If they're going to write Buffy and Angel retreads, they should just hire Joss Whedon as showrunner.

The difference, of course, is that "Once More With Feeling" and "Smile Time" actually worked, within the context of the respective shows. SNW has dropped the ball on BOTH of their attempts to recreate that magic, and painfully so.

I really think SNW needs to just leave the Buffyverse alone, although I guess it really doesn't matter anymore... since Kurtzman - and his destruction of Trek - will be gone soon anyhow.

Soooo … Pigs in Space?

This sounds so wretched. At least when Star Trek ripped off another film or tv show for their episodes the characters still sounded and acted like the characters they were supposed to be. Parody worked as parody.

I thought "dumbest ever" was a pretty difficult bar to cross (Spock's Brain?), but making everyone on the ship into muppets clears it. Ye gods.

The whole nonsense with puppets; today's writers are just taking concepts that once would have been seen as parody, if not an outright joke, and trying desperately to pass it off as actual TREK, and because a large section of the modern audience has no taste --this is just accepted as "normal"....

Worse than "Spock's Brain?" "Threshold?" "A Night in Sickbay?"

That does sound horrendous.

(And Spock dating La'an? I haven't watched SNW, but hasn't he already had relationships with Chapel and T'Pring at this point?)

Interestingly, the 'It's all a dream' premise was used for the episode of The Cosby Show that guest-starred the Muppets. But there, it was established from the start.

Not any more. They were both traumatized by The Griffin Incident and La'an evidently decided that she was done being in a relationship. Spock's romance really fares poorly during novelty episodes; Chapel broke up with him during Subspace Rhapsody.

I'm just finding it ironic that by all reports, the stoic, unapproachable, Vulcan Spock is getting nearly as much romantic focus in SNW as James T. Kirk did in TOS. :)

And I still fear that before SNW is finished, we're going to get a Kirk/Spock episode.

(Mandatory disclaimer: This is all based on secondhand information; I haven't seen any new Trek since the Discovery premiere aired on CBS.)

"Human Best Friend" is, arguably, a Kirk/Spock episode in that their friendship plays a strong role. (Spock believes Kirk is a psychotropic hallucination for most of the episode, but still.)

Oops! I actually liked "A Night in Sickbay?" :-)

They have Joe Lo Truglio as a guest star, and they waste him on sh*te like this?! I'm wondering… maybe the writers/producers & Kurtzman already knew that their era was coming to an end, and now they are burning bridges on purpose, constantly flipping the finger on us fans, the alleged online trolls, who never stopped criticizing their "brilliant" shows. Either way, these people are such pathetic, deplorable, abysmal fraudsters. I have watched a couple of panels with those NuTrek hacks on stage, and it says a lot about the civility of the fans that even when faced with their treason they still don't boo them off the stage.

Basically, Alex Kurtzman wasted a lot of money, just for this unnecessary collaboration with The Jim Henson Company, even if the plot of this episode makes no sense?

Drewie's avatar

Wow, had no idea Jim Henson company was still a thing.

It wasn't fingerprints that made it so the crew couldn't use their stations. If it was Spock wouldn't have been able to jump between stations.

The stations weren't picking up electrical signals from human skin when the puppets touched them. Uhura mentioned thad it worked sometimes, but not always. Thats why Scotty had to make the electric glove.

It was a dumb episode, but was still fun at least.

I'm so beyond fed up with this now. Never ever again will I give a Star Trek show a chance to see if it's any good, nor will I ever watch out of curiosity or even to balk at how bad it is. I'm done, I'm out.

Whenever there's a revival of an old great show or IP I'll just ignore it. These idiots won't get my attention or an ounce of engagement and energy.

STAR TREK: THE ANIMATED SERIES by Filmation is worth a watch. Yes - it is a Saturday morning cartoon. And yes - the animation frankly sucks. But the stories hold up and they're only a half hour long. Recommended.

It is just junk! Star Dreck! Happy I am done with this!

Maximum Embarrassment. How anyone has been watching Star Trek for the past 6 years is beyond me. Total garbage.

For however little it's worth, in the first Engineering scene, Pelia says that voice commands were offline following the Orion attack. Not I'm trying to defend an episode that showed a puppet mind-melding with Spock to brief him on their plan, which would have taken all of 30 seconds if she'd simply voiced it.

Why did they make showrunners of a STAR TREK show people who hate STAR TREK? Kurtzman said it, of course. They don't care about STAR TREK they just want to push their ideology using the show. What do you expect?
