Last week Kickstarter began suspending funded campaigns mid-run under new mature content guidelines, including one that had already raised $10,592 from 198 backers, because Stripe's payment processing rules conflicted with content Kickstarter had already reviewed and approved.
I'm going to disagree with this being a good policy. Its not that these aren't bad for society but that empowering either a public or private entity to decide it's bad and must be banned is setting a very dangerous precent. That "Won't someone think of the children" effort you support today will be expanded and used against you later. Unless its something illegal like CP then supporting the banning of it will eventually come back to haunt you in ways you did not expect. The ID verification they are requiring in my US States to access adult content is NOT going to stay limited to adult websites. Once the public has been conditioned to it they will expand this and keep expanding it until one day you can't do anything without verifying who you are.
Stripe should have absolutely no control over how someone spends their money. Stripe is a payment processor. Banks should have no says so over what someone spends money on. It's not their business. The government should only have just enough oversight to say "No, you can't sell a human being, or child porn.
The problem is government thinks it can tell you what to do, while doing whatever it wants to do. Because of that, Bank and processors can do whatever they want.
What we need is a Western Union of Card processing. As long as it doesn't break a law, the money goes through.

Well... since Church isn't around to remind folks of SIN. I guess the pagans get to be in charge of the asylum.
Carry on.
