The media is all talking about Jody Whittaker today, who gave an interview reminiscing about her Doctor Who run, lamenting that fans did not accept her because, as she said, “I didn’t fit the mold for Doctor Who.”
From what I recall of her tenure, the failure of the show was less Jodi Whitaker and more the writing and direction. I like her as an actress but her doctor who stories were such stinkers even she couldn't save them.
She could have inhabited the role just fine if she hadn't been buried under amphetamine-madcap flibberty-gibberty timey-wimey bullshit, which has been the problem for all of the nü-Who Doctors.
I concur. I didn't care for her incarnation because she played her Doctor as fairly one-note knock off of Tennant or Smith's mania without the grounding pathos (at least in the first year) but what really wrecked her run was the absolutely awful writing.
