Sexuality isn't comparable to religion; sex is natural and not ideological or based on ethics. Sexual morality has, for millennia until the modern day, been based on the obvious natural place the two sexes have with one another, guided toward the equally-obvious intended purpose of procreation.
As for religion, "keeping religion in church" is exactly how we got to this woke bulls*it in the first place. You keep ethics and morality out of the public square and shame people for being public about their faith, then you end up with godless secular leftism, because that's where people ALWAYS go when they're not encouraged to think about rules other than the ones they get to make up for themselves.
We get our morality from human nature. No one would leave their home if they were afraid someone would steal their stuff or kill thier wife. So society agreed that while you leave your home to make society a reality, anyone who does those things are punished. This has been a thing for MANY societies, even before religion was created.
Religion exists for those who are to stupid to understand this. No all religious people are stupid, some just hope there is something when you die, but religion is a bribe to not be a piece of shit so you get something better after death.

There was never a time when religion didn't exist, not in recorded history and not for thousands of years before recorded history. Organized religion, sure. Belief in a higher power, though, has been with mankind forever. Archaeological records bear that out over and over. It's not about stupid or smart. Facts are facts.
