An excellent writer. And very creative at such a young age. Gwen Stacey was not the first character to have permanent death in the Marvel universe though; that would be James Buchanan Barnes i.e. BUCKY. Bucky was officially dead from 1945 (or 1964 when he was retconned) until 2005, when he was resurrected as The Winter Soldier by the writer Ed Brubaker. I'm in a small minority I realize when I say that was mistaken. Making Bucky a Soviet assassin was even more asinine. But from 1945 to 2005 Bucky was dead for 60 years, which is a long time in the comic-book publishing world. Even if you use the 1964 date instead, that's still over 40 years a character remained dead. You mentioned Gerry Conway building the cornerstone for anti-heroes. That is true. You mentioned The Punisher. That is the bedrock antihero. Then there is also Daredevil. Correct. And Wolverine. And . . . The Winter Soldier . . .
Very sad. He gave us so much great content.
RIP Gerry. One of the greats.
