They're very much poorly-socialized teenagers: No-one is real but them and maybe (sometimes) their closest friends. So no, these are the same kids who would trash someone's property on a whim, or to satisfy a passing want one day. Then wail and moan when something of theirs is taken away or damaged. Empathy and an adult appreciation for other people's existence is a learned thing. They haven't.
