Disney+ is releasing a new Spider-Man cartoon titled Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on January 29th. The first trailer dropped from Marvel Entertainment, and it shows a completely race-swapped supporting cast, including Harry and Norman Osborn as black men.
This was surprising, but also not so surprising. It seems like this was too far in production to change it like so many projects have recently in order to finally appease a market that has had enough of the woke-chokehold. I am most shocked by the song in the trailer, which continually uses the dreaded N-word. Also not surprised that the comments are off. Typical Disney.
Since it's a multiverse, the entire cast should be brown. The problem is that it's half-baked. If the entire cast is brown, I think that's the concept. The color replacement for the sake of fawning over the audience creates backlash.
Make a version where everyone is brown, and a version where everyone is Asian. Then, no one will complain if you make a version where everyone is white next time.
Sadly, the one idea the creators got right was the garbage rap. Check the popular Spotify playlists: everyone whose parents let them seems to prefer the stuff.
