I don't think the interaction went down as described and I expect the artist being canceled got harassed by their accuser. Even those time lapse animations can be AI generated.

Mean and nasty attitudes are quite effective at getting people, especially when they did nothing wrong, to get their guards up.

It'll stop when the single brain-cell leftists latch onto the next crusade so they have a common enemy.

Then suddenly, the left will be all for AI as if they were never against it.

As the artist in question, I will state, definitively, that multiple statements here are patently and provably false. First and foremost, that AI was used to create my multiple Lorcana cards. Not remotely true. Nor have I been blacklisted from working with Disney. I assure you. The “employee” that stated these things deleted their tweet and took their account private almost immediately after making these false statements. I’ve been awaiting communication from Ravensburger to be given permission to publicly share the layered hand drawn files of my Lorcana cards, as, unfortunately, it would be in violation of my contract to do so without explicit written permission. So, my hands are tied. All I can say is that I have worked in some capacity with Disney for decades, and my years of work will stand up to these accusations. (Though, not strangely, an AI detector, which came back showing one of my D23 releases from 2014, was 99.9% AI, a rather humorous but absurd discovery) )

I understand completely, the hatred for artists using generative AI, and passing it along as their hand painted created work. AI has its uses, but Al, in my estimation, ultimately will be an incredibly destructive force for society and humanity as a whole. I did NOT use it, nor have I received any communication from my Ravensburger/Lorcana team accusing me of such. This came from one person speaking on behalf of Lorcana, issuing a tweet (again, that was deleted very quickly) with no backup or even naming the art director that they spoke to.

To conclude, I’ve kept on the downlow to deal with some family issues (while attempting to ignore countless threats against myself and my family) but I felt if I didn’t say something, I was going to burst. If anyone would care to reach out to me with questions, I’m happy to answer anything privately, as to do so publicly at the moment, is something I’ve been advised against.

My Instagram is open. My website is jamescmulligan.com (and was NEVER shut down)

Looking forward to the moment these accusations can be easily dispelled.

Thank you,

Jimmy

The same folks that hate on the Catholic church for the Spanish Inquisition happily impose their own personal inquisitions. Those with no oversight, no trials, and no means by which to recover reputation.

So only people that paint pictures with oil paint and take photos of it with film are allowed?

DSLR cameras ok?

They're always complaining.

It's a tool. I cannot manually crunch numbers on a spreadsheet.

Your phone literally does data crunching for you all day. Hypocrites.

Disney started Pixar. Pixar uses computers to generate their art. What do you want to bet that Pixar uses AI, as does Disney.

I sincerely doubt that every frame is done by hand, and know that most of the CGI is done by AI, if not all of it. That's why it looks cheesy.

As for their writing, I'm almost certain that AI is being used in scripts.

AI is in everything now, from your AI on your smartphone, to the AI in adobe and MS products, to AI in Grammarly and ProWritingaid, to AI on third party websites.

Eventually AI will get so good that you won't be able to differentiate it any more.

There was a poll run recently and in it, people professed to like AI writing over human writing, because it's easy to read and they don't have to think.
