The new StarCraft trailer left a bad taste in my mouth. While many were well aware that some kind of StarCraft shooter was arriving after years of rumors, the sour part is how Blizzard chose to sell it.
It's worth noting that the years long delay for Ghost was unplanned. The years long delay for what's coming is SCHEDULED.
As in, if everything goes perfectly, it's going to take another four years, plus however many years it's been in development already (presumably at least two, maybe three, four, or even five, who knows anymore?).
Why does it take 6-10 years to release a shooter game? People used to make entire massive overhaul mods in their basement for free in a couple of months.
Game engines were supposed to simplify this process, not drag it out for years.
I maintain, a small dedicated team, without interuption and constant meddling, working off of a known and suitable for the project engine, could make a good AAA game every 2-3 years.
There's simply no excuse for this level of inefficiency.
EDIT:
Look at Capcom and Konami. They are turning Resident Evil and Silent Hill into annual releases, using multiple teams alternating between remakes and new installments. Meanwhile, The Elder Scrolls 6 won't come out this decade, and it could be 20 years between Fallouts 4 and 5.
Why can't executives call a thing for what it is? Call it 'canceled' rather than 'indefinite postponement'. Bunch of slimy, dishonest cowards them CEOs are.
StarCraft was always a complete rip of 40k. Some person in the marketing department decided this shooter should target that audience. You're getting Blizzard presents: Space Marine 3.
