Many in the science fiction and fantasy community have been calling out Amazon for allowing women’s pornography into the top charts of the genre, cluttering what readers legitimately want out of genre fiction with product that belongs at the very least in its own category, but probably should also be removed on the grounds of it being porn to begin with.
I, for one, would absolutely love to read a Larry Correia romantasy. It would be hilarious, especially seeing the way women would inevitably react to them.
Larry seems like his favorite thing over anything else is being outraged. Every time he comes up in an article, it’s because he’s furious and Facebook ranting over something, usually involving how he feels slighted.
(2) Larry's post is hilarious and I would read - more important, I would PAY for - ALL of his Romantasy books. Because he is HILARIOUS.
(3) Larry is VERY undefensive. He knows it's a big world and that there is zero overlap between his readers, people who enjoy him (like me - elderly female - I should be a Romantasy customer but I loathe that genre) - and people who think Romantasy is worthwhile.
Another issue is that science-fiction romance (which is NOT romantasy) is also dominated by porn. I, as Odessa Moon, write sci-fi-romance but my books most decidedly do NOT belong to the "I was the alien's love slave" subgenre.
It's a major irritation because how do I explain a big, sprawling terraformed Mars that's more like Charles Dickens or Jane Austen that involves real people with real problems? Yeah, they've got green skin but there's a reason. There are no ray guns. But mention science fiction romance and everyone instantly thinks of "Ice Planet Barbarians."
I do not write porn and I resent the fact that those of us who don't write in "I was the alien's love slave" subgenre get lumped with those writers who do. I'd sell more if I did. Argh.
Back in the day male readers enjoyed Stewart's post WW-2 thrillers, Heyer's witty Regency-era novels, and The Scarlet Pimpernel (the world's first masked super-hero) was a massive success with both sexes.
All of which were unashamedly romantic. Male writers gave us the same in the pulls.
I'm slaving away on "The Bitch Queen of Atto," which continues two minor characters' story from "The White Elephant of Panschin." They both need and want redemption and are working hard to get it.
A difficulty for me with great big sprawling doorstop books is they take a very long time to write. Maybe I'll be done in early 2027 assuming life does not get in the way!
For online purposes, the Evil Empire. The Zon's payout is considerably better than IngramSpark who are simply AWFUL to work with.
However! Since we do events, I keep trade paperbacks on hand. If you're willing to pay the media mail shipping costs, I'll mail you a signed copy at the Zon's price!
If you follow us via our newsletter, website, Instagram, and so forth (https://peschelpress.com/ has all the links), I'll announce everywhere so you'll know when we finally press [PUBLISH].
The new title -- when I finally get it done and published! -- should be the same as the others. $20 plus media mail shipping works for me.
As for Ingram Spark, we only work with them because we must. Most bookstores and libraries don't like The Zon. But sadly, The Zon is much easier to work with for indie authors than Ingram is. Ingram makes everything harder including not explaining how returns will kill you as an indie and how big a discount you must offer for a bookstore to take a flier on your book. It's the maximum, by the way. A 55% discount gives the bookseller 40% which is industry standard, 15% to Ingram (or whatever they get) and then what you get. We actually have to charge MORE for some of our books with Ingram because we only earn about a quarter!
Larry is a professing LDS, but a functional Mammon follower. As long as it makes money, it's *fine.* He might even do it, too, to show us all how it's done!
Far too late. Larry had his chance to own the field with John Ringo's set of Monster Hunter Memoirs, or, "Kildar Comes A-Calling". If you read Ringo's series, arrange words as you will.
What he stands for is partly shaped by what he stands against. Too bad it doesn't include female fantasy porn.
In fairness to Correia, I don't think the average romantasy authoress knows the first thing about male-female relations, either—not on this planet, anyway.
Obviously you haven't really read his facebook rants. Larry doesn't get outraged over being "slighted". He gets outraged at stupidity. He's been that way since before he ever became an author. The romantasy post was a joke, a dig at the genre and at his rotundness George R. R. Martin (at least that's the way I read it based off the book titles). As for the post about Dinniman, Larry doesn't seem to care if another author sells more than him (though he always wants to be the top seller for mercenary reasons). There's only 2 things he wants out of literature: Did people enjoy it, and did it make money.
Meanwhile it's pretty easy to get #1 on LitRPG freebooks; even I managed it earlier this week. Doesn't make the dollaz, though.
Anyway, if we view fantasy haremlit as Romantasy, then Larry could probably write it just fine, as the relationships don't have to appeal to women. And Ethan Gale's Betrayed by the Hero's Party harem LitRPG is outranking Correia's Magic & Bullets, even 2 months after its release.
I don't think he defends romantasy. There is a bitter tone in his words. And the phrases “not bagging on the mommy porn,” “more power to you, ladies.” “Not that there’s anything wrong with angsty boning, if that’s what you like to read, ladies.” are super sarcastic. The whole text is full of irony and that's the way we should read it.
I actually think he has an opportunity here, though only because he's already Larry Correia.
He'd probably have to collaborate with a woman (or maybe not), but writing a romantasy *parody* that also contains stuff he's good at would probably be good for at least one book. Mash together ACOTAR and Monster Hunter International and you'd probably get something funny.
Let's see, what is Larry's political affiliation? Oh, right, he's a libertarian. Why would you act surprised he has retarded takes about other people's preferences? He is acting consistently according to his principles. He would never support any form of societal change that everyone didn't "consent" to, including changes that would propel him to greater fame and riches, like deporting romantasy authors to the North Pole (polar bears gotta eat). I admire his fervent beliefs, as stupid and self-defeating as they are, because he really believes them.
Larry wanted fame, financial success, and respect out of his writing career. 2 outta 3 ain't bad.
The thing is that lack of respect from the literary establishment stings him. Stings him so bad he has to pretend that he never wanted it and the only thing that matters to him is the sales. That's why he can't bring himself to criticize others who sell very well, but are rightly derided on lack of literary merit.

If he starts a new series ala the The Christmas Noun, it will be AWESOME.
I laughed so hard I cried.
I'm not sure his send-up of the genre has legs, but I hope he gives it a shot.
Maybe for Valentine's Day?
On one hand, the reactions from booktokers would be hilarious.
On the other hand, it could actually be as funny as Tom Stranger, though in an unintentional fashion.
A new form of mathematics would need to be invented to properly calculate the ick.
Larry seems like his favorite thing over anything else is being outraged. Every time he comes up in an article, it’s because he’s furious and Facebook ranting over something, usually involving how he feels slighted.

I thought his post was hilarious, though I thought his Book 9 would be the most popular with his readers. ;-)

These SF romances are excellent.

Mrs. Peschel's books are in that tradition.
More please!
Thank you so much for your kind words!

Very glad to hear it! I have reread the whole series every time a new one comes out.
Which site gives you the best payout for a paper copy.

Also yes, Ingram Spark is very challenging! Amazon cover work is much easier!
Okay. Looks like $20 each. I'll send the check to the PO Box in PA that is currently on the peschelpress.com site, yes?
My apologies for taking so long to respond. I've been out of area visiting my mother.
Yes, our post office box at https://peschelpress.com/PeschelPress.com is correct.

It isn't quite fair to call a parody a defense. ;-)
Though I think his Book #9 would be the most popular with his audience.
I directly quoted what the defense was.
Yeah, my mistake. I saw his parody post and only read the rest after I made the comment...which is why I left the second comment.
My apologies!
Ah! I see what you mean. :-)

Not much I can add to this. You nailed it. Vox's comment was hilarious.

How low will Larry go? I guess we'll find out.
