Despite massive Donald Trump victories in 2024 and a shift in many corporations’ marketing toward DEI, cancel culture is still alive in video games as the entire gaming journalism industry has piled on Anglican Priest Calvin Robinson for making a joke about Elon Musk during a pro-life speech.
The ACC website says that his license has been revoked and that he's no longer serving as a priest in the ACC. Is this not defrocking, or does he need to be reduced to laity first?
Defrocking would be taking away the "status" of priesthood from him. He was ordained in the Nordic Catholic Church (a Lutheran spin-off that became Old Catholic via the Polish National Catholic Church- it's a long story), so as having priesthood from outside the church and the ACC not claiming to have universal juridiction, they'll almost certainly not try to defrock him. However, the ACC is in full communion with some other spin-off Anglican groups, so he'll be hard pressed to find a group that will take him (not impossible, though)
I would doubt it (though I have been wrong about plenty of stuff). Father Calvin has repeatedly stated he is a catholic who believes in seven sacraments, and considers the Reformation a mistake. LCMS only has two sacraments, a close but different idea of the priesthood, and considers itself the true heir of the Reformation.
Hopefully Sargon & the rest of the Lotus Eaters stand by him. If not... well, I dare say he'd be welcome as an unauthorised person...
