Ross Scott, the creator behind YouTube channel Accursed Farms, has launched a campaign to prevent video game publishers from destroying games they've already sold to customers.
I find it odd that people would defend this nonsense to begin with. Some 40 years ago, a bright marketing mind somewhere at IBM, Motorola or wherever went the evil genius way and told his CEO: "What if we told them they're not buying our product - they're LICENSING it?". And thus the biggest consumer scam in recent decades began.
The fact that four decades later people accept this as normal just proves how right Goebbels was with his famous quote and how easily people begin to believe a complete nonsense, if the lie is repeated long enough. Even if it means people agreeing to not owning what they bought. Wild times, eh? You'll be telling me car manufacturers will license cars to you and ask for subscriptions next! Oh, wait...
John Deer has already done it with tractors. They won't let just any mechanic work on their rigs, for fear of stolen tech code. I'd imagine it's the same with Tesla Battery powered cars.
I think we're too long into the effort to succeed now. I'd like to be wrong, but I don't think the initiative has gotten enough backing in time. Even Ross said unless things go really right with the last few strategies he's got, it's going to end in failure. I don't say this without reason, as Ubisoft already basically told those gamers in california who sued them over the relativel same issue (even if it wasn't worded or channeled well) to F*ck Off.
In general I support the idea, but I don't trust the EU to do it right. They are full of evil bureaucrats who hate games and freedom.
Been watching Ross's channel for years now. His Freeman's Mind series is classic!
Odd, I wasn't aware that people bought online games, only the license to play those games, as long as the server is up.
