Nintendo announced today that the JRPG sci-fi epic Xenoblade Chronicles X would be the first in the series to receive a Switch 2 update, adding 60 fps (a first for the series outside of modding) and native 4K while docked.
How good are the Xenoblade games? The only experience I have ever had with Nintendo has mainly been Mario, Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda, and Fire Emblem in the form of Three Hopes and Three Houses, which I have to finish.
It can depend on our expectations. The games are big on exploring their massive worlds, lots of side content, and each game you can expect to put about 100 hours into it unless you’re speed running it. The story really picks up around chapter 5. The music becomes infectious earworms. The Definitive Edition of X has a lot of quality of life fixes that make it vastly superior to its original version, so it’s more than just a port.
The games aren’t flawless, as the battle system has multiple layers to it, sometimes not explained well. Though there are multiple ways to utterly break the game. You can have builds that one shot super-bosses. It’s crazy.
it’s a comfort game for me. I can loop it in and just run around, explore, fight monsters, get loot, it’s a great casual thing for when I don’t feel like committing too much to a game.
and right now it’s on sale at like GameStop and Walmart for $40. Definitely some bang worth your buck
I've played Breath of the Wild, which was my first Zelda game, and its sequel Tears of the Kingdom so I don't really mind the exploration but I enjoy it in a way. I've also gotten used to exploring and not going to the main objective right away. I also like listening to music so any good soundtrack will draw me in. Fantasy settings and outdoor settings are also my favorite parts of games. Plus, I've started taking time to learn the systems of the games I own to see what I can do in certain ways. Speaking of which I need to get back into Three Houses and actually take time to do that one. But it sounds like the Xenoblade games are solid games.
For the right gamer, they’re some of the best. The battle system is kinda loosely live action like an MMO battle system. But it made me, a lifelong turn based fan, enjoy it. Go for it, bro. I can send some videos that kinda help out
At the very least I'll have to start with maybe the first game. I've gotten sort of that experience with Pokémon Legends Z-A, which was mid by the way.
You mentioned Breath of the Wild. Fun fact: devs from monolith soft helped Nintendo design the open world of that game. So it’ll prolly make you feel right at home. In fact devs who worked on X hits that give more than anything
I beat both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom but didn't 100% either of them. I also got the DLC for Breath of the Wild and I enjoyed it. I'm replaying Breath of the Wild with the goal of exploring and casually doing the story. Both Breath and Tears are 2 of my favorite games in Switch.
Great game, one of my favorite wii u games. Loved the multi-player. That game doesn't hold your hand to the extreme. The music is hilarious. Sounds like something you'd hear from "Kill la Kill" the anime. Cant wait to play it on the switch one day. Awesome article.

But the Xenoblade games look awesome in their stories too.

Oh then You’ll find a lot to like in Xenoblade 1 and X. Both of them were the blueprint for those Zelda games

All you need now are the Switch 2 upgrades for Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2, and 3.
Given they did this for X, arguably the bastard step child of the series, they’ll definitely do it for the more popular versions.
Though I am inclined to believe that 2 will get a definitive edition
