Science fiction has a mental illness problem that gets amplified by the greater publishing community coming out of conventions. WisCon, one of the most radical of the conventions, has been giving awards called the “Tiptree” award, which has now been rebranded the “Otherwise Award” since 1991, and this year has chosen two mentally ill foreign women to give their awards to for works that would make any normal person cringe.
