Kurtzman is a name of German origin meaning "short man", and his take on NuTrek defintely fell short of expectations… gives new meaning to the German saying "Der Name ist Programm". Is Kurtzman Trek canon? Well, for me, "Star Trek Continues" and the Axanar films are canon, so I can respect it when people declare Kurtzman Trek apocryphal. I'm expecting a Trek drought, so over the months I've been filling my Jellyfin server with everything Trek, and arranging it into a chronological playlist, so I have about 755 hours worth of Trek to watch during the coming drought… step by step, from the first contact excerpt and "Broken Bow" to "Calypso" in the 43rd century. Except for two short excerpts, JJ Abrams' films are not part of that playlist. But I've put Kurtzman's content in there: it's official, it takes place in the "prime" timeline, so yeah, I do accept its canonical status. The biggest problem, however, is that this playlist now ends with (shudder) Discovery seasons 3 to 5 and (big shudder!) the two seasons of Starfleet Academy. The playlist will always end on a really sour note, and the (rather charming) Trek short "Calypso" at the very end will not be able to alleviate that, so "thank you", Mr. Kurtzman. Go away now.
