Stargate SG-1 writer and executive producer as well as Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate: Universe co-showrunner Joseph Mallozzi shared more details about the upcoming Stargate revival at Amazon MGM Studios.
Reasons to be cautious: Made by guy who also came up with SGU. Some of the folks involved made Kenobi which was trash.
Guess I’ll stay optimistic, but cautiously so, so I won’t be too surprised when the show debuts and features an evil “President Trunk” and a transsexual in a wheelchair.
You are not wrong about it being different from what many were expecting but for me that is what made it refreshing/different. They also had a very strong cast pointing out Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, David Blue and Mike Dopud. INYMI, they did do a limited run comic book series that completed the story that SGU was on when it was ended. I've not read it myself but I heard it was good.
Robert Carlyle was one of the few actors I enjoyed in that cast. The rest… Meh.
(Except for that soldier chick with the absolutely massive chest lol!)
The choice of taking a show where the essential element of camaraderie and teamwork and replacing it with a cast that constantly bickered and argued was definitely a choice to make!
At least if they had stuck with the premise we could have had an “oh shit, all these people have to work together, they’re completely isolated!”-premise. But then they included the dumb stones so we could get some cameos.
More evidence of Hollywood’s creative bankruptcy. Revivals of Game of Thrones, The Mummy, Stargate. All they can do is re-do past work. They’re long past the point of diminishing returns.
Will they introduce another.new Gate and if so where and how?
Will past factions like the Goa'uld and/or the Asgard or will they introduce new factions?
Is this going to be another Military Team or something else?
Possible Ideas:
1) A group of curios kids (of military parents) find their way into the gate room where the gate is somehow activated and the kids are sucked in and no one knows where and so their parents come together to try and find them. Season 1 is all about ten kids trying to work together to get home while their parents are trying to find them. BONUS: The parents are using the gate unsanctioned so once they go thru it they can't return until they have the kids or else.
2) In remote location in Egypt a rumble is felt that is eventually found to lead back t a new not yet discovered Stargate however this is different from the rest. The symbols are different as is teh design. After some investigation the humans discover it's gate built by someone who came before the gate builders. Its address book (or whatever they call that in the show) has all new addresses in galaxies/locations never considered. WHile investigating the gate activates and the image of a bieng comes thur. It tells the humans something that they eventually are able to translate into "Prepare for thy destructions in X days". This being is able to turn off all electronics globally save for the gate and warns that this is but the first step and then exits thru the gate. Humanity is able Tio get the power back on but no one can say why it went out globally. A team is formed to investigate these new locations and try to solve the puzzle of who this new entity is.
SPOILER: Towards the end of the season the humans discover that what they got was not a threat but a warning. The threat is not this entity but something else that this entity is warning humanity of. The entity is fearful of what this other thing is and to show the humans the level of power involved it shuts down all power globally =. If this powerful entity that can turn off power globally while keeping the gate and its facilities powered but is fearful of this other being then what does that say of the power of this thing coming for humanity?
Why Earth? Turns out that while humanoids are not uncommon across the universe, to have soo many in one planet very much is a rare find. The ultimate slave market.
They haven’t said “modern audiences” so far, which is encouraging.
Thank you for pointing that out. I had not even thought of that bc of how exciting this news is but that des make it that much better!
Cautiously optimistic.
Reasons to be positive: SGA and SG1
Veterans involved.

I believe SGU was good, not trash. Obi Wan Kenobi is another matter though.
Meh… It was competently made. The problem was that it was totally not what the audience wanted.
Typical: Let’s find a new audience!-thinking.
Also: They went back on the premise with the dumb communication stones.

Well said my friend.
