Star Trek: Starfleet Academy showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau have revealed how they included a cameo of Benjamin Sisko at the end of the show’s most recent episode.
When did they switch from "To boldly go where no man has gone before!" To easter eggs, call backs, member berries, and writer service (like fan service, but strictly for the writers and their small cultural cohort)?
I've spoken multiple times about Hollywood's creative bankruptcy, but this is a whole 'nother level.
It's creative cowardice.
They're terrified of trying something new, because, when that gets rejected, THEY get rejected.
It's also a gross misunderstanding of fandom. THEY are fans of how a property makes them FEEL, and so it must never change and constantly recycle the safe and familiar. WE are fans of how a property makes us THINK, and so it must challenge us with new and different circumstances.
The Force Awakens is a great example. They wanted to feel Rebels vs Empire, little ship blows up big ship. We wanted to see and ponder a universe where good has returned, the Jedi are ascendant, and what new challenges awaited in that galaxy far far away.
My brother in Christ, how were you expecting that hour to go when you clicked "play?"
I'm sorry for being critical, but "Fool me twice" happened years ago. That wasted hour is on you, unfortunately. And, unfortunately, it's one more hour, one more view to keep feeding these beasts.
A hate watch is just as good to these clowns as a casual watch, more so 'cause "mUH eNgaGEmEnT!¡"
They put it up for free on both Youtube and Pluto's Star Trek channel. Hell, I wasn't going to PAY to see that crap. Now I can say that I "gave it a chance and it was absolute crap".
I will grant a certain area of fault for me that my eldest has criticized me for is calling something bad without ever actually watching it.
Thing is, that's only a fault when the media in question is presented in good faith. It's why I constantly refer back to "Fool me X". I don't need to see this Star Trek to know it's crap. I didn't need to see Section 31, Picard (a well received third season doesn't make up for the atrocities in one and two), Lower Decks, and whatever that Pike series was to know they were all crap.
All I needed to see were the God awful Kelvin movies (a fantastic cast absolutely ruined) and a few episodes of Discovery. I checked out long ago. Everything since has been confirmation bias via the backlash content farm.
Please excuse the following vulgarity, but...
I don't need to smell this particular new piece of crap to know it's crap--it came from the same dog anus all the other piles of turds stinking up the franchise's lawn came out of.
That dog is not going to be planting a rose bush anytime soon--I promise you.
Best to stay off that lawn entirely unless you want to step in it.
Enough info was released before the premiere so that serious TREK fans could avoid hate-watching; all I had to see was a picture of "Jay-Den" the skirt wearing klingon to know it was trash...

You covered a few very well. Especially the last paragraph. Kudos.
"Love letter", my shiny metal ass. I still want that hour of my life back after wasting it watching the pilot.

Never watched; Never will...
