Magic: The Gathering is adding Star Trek to its collaboration lineup, with Wizards of the Coast confirming a full Universes Beyond set built around the franchise’s 60th anniversary.
Never EVER thought I'd see Magic the Gathering turned into Monopoly for nerds.
MTG does not fit Star Trek, not even a little, any more than Scooby Doo fits Monopoly, but idiots will buy both.
A purpose built game system made to incorporate the theme from the ground up is the Star Trek game fans should have. (And did, I guess, with Decipher, but I can't speak to it having never played it.)
But if they're willing to gobble up warmed-over mechanics with a wildly divergent theme stapled on (at $75 A DECK??), because their personal Venn Diagram overlap is more important than their money and self-respect, it's the game they deserve.
They are saving that for Spock or some other major character.
I wonder what powers they'll give Sulu. Something like "Invincible: Multiple Minority Shield. Tap to seduce any other male card in play and take control of the target."
