Supergirl has always been a character of DC Comics, and its film counterparts seemed not to know what to do with her. Now, James Gunn is looking like he’s turning the character into a drunken nightmare, and in the comics, transgender activist Sophie Campbell is making the character into his LGBTQ self-insert.
The history of Supergirl has been all over the map. The character first started as a cutsey cousin to Superman, who clearly was just a wholesome counterpart for girls.
