Andy Jerkis is garbage.

Why are they doing this? Nobody asked for this. Nobody wants this. And nobody should trust this--not after Serkis produced that animated abomination of Animal Farm.

There's nowhere near enough story here for a movie, so we'll get the Hobbit stretched into 3 movies, but much worse as this is a few paragraphs stretched into a movie. And Hollywood writing has actually managed to get worse in the past 15 some years since The Hobbit, so the "new material" will be even more dog water than before.

The principal cast are far too old now. Expect uncanny valley de-aged faces up and down the picture. That tech barely works for a 2 minute cameo--how bad is it going to look for a 2 hour film? And the voices? What are they going to do for voices that have aged ~27 years since filming LOTR began?

And CGI, like writing, has gotten noticably worse in recent years. There's no way it can carry the realism required for this. Forget about practical effects and makeup. The Hobbit test filming (and LOTR High Def transfers unfortunately) proved that even the awesome effects WETA had done in the past don't hold up to modern high definition standards. No way they're NOT shooting this with 4K in mind. So, dog water CGI will be the order of the day.

In summation: bad director, bad script, bad effects, and an inappropriately over the hill cast.

Oh boy!!!

I for one am actually excited for this. It will be nice to see Andy Serkis put on the motion capture suit again, plus he’s directing it how cool is that

A whole film devoted to Smeagol is nothing but a vanity project for Serkis--this is likely going to be the cinematic equivalent to that godawful Gollum video game that came out a few years ago...
