How much water and electricity do you want to burn up having 200 characters, of which people only actually remember 10, eat, dress up, undress, screw, and screw over one another just to end after 1500 pages with no significant plot advancement?
The books are objective garbage with constant assault scenes. Are there well written pieces? Sure. Most writers can pull that off. You dont write THAT many assaults and be a normal human being though. At some point it isnt flavor anymore. It's personal fantasy.

I am re-reading The Wheel of Time from start to finish and while I have a new appreciation for how deeply things were plotted out and telegraphed from book one that show up in book five, there's also a lot of BS filler going on.
No wonder it had to go out so many books. Thankfully, I'm on the last one Jordan wrote so things should pick up now.
I have a feeling that's what happened to the last 3 seasons of the Game of Thrones show. LLMs are better now and have, thanks to illegal activities of breaking into libraries and other repos of digital books, probably trained on both GRRM and Rothfuss.

Martin is a cautionary tale to all creators that “fame” can easily turn to “infamy” when you demonstrate such prolonged disdain toward your creations, your legal obligations, and to your loyal fans. It’s obviously his choice to dawdle away his remaining time on such selfish frippery, but that comes at the heavy price of decimating his creative legacy.
He's now worth 120 million dollars, what incentive does he have to work? Especially since he can make millions from works just laying around in drawers.
I'd be willing to bet that when Martin sold the rights to HBO fifteen years ago, he knew he'd never finish the last two books; he probably figured that between all the TV writers the story would get SOME form of resolution-- whether it was successful is still an ongoing debate...
Like an article a while ago said: Authors like GRRM and Patrick Rothfuss start and epic and amazing series that is expected to be long term or have the potential for a long term franchise, get their millions, then they get bored or run out of ideas and go and do other stuff. It has ruined the industry for others who want to kick off a series with a mainstream publisher.
They claim it is to refresh their creative juices but it is really a dodge for them ditching their fans, indulging in all the fame, enjoying all the brown nosing, and swimming in their money.

I don’t believe there is no plan to complete this series if he dies first. There is just too much money to be made.
