Who is this Martin character of whom you speak?

I think he's a book writer. Him and a bunch of other writers wrote some decent books called Wild Cards back in 80's and 90's.

Martin’s ending is going to be radically different from the show because the the show actually has an ending.

At least Martin's talking about writing the book. It's when he's not talking about it that I get more concerned. He still has will to complete it. And he knows his legacy will be "that clown who couldn't complete his series" if he doesn't. Now, nothing ever happens, but that doesn't mean we can't entertain the notion of "what if".

Yeah, right. Sure, George.

This pivot from "same major beats" to a drastically darker endgame is probably Martin's way of reclaiming narrative control, but I dunno if constantly rewriting chapters is gonna get him there. The Tyrion arc shift makes sense given how the character's been spiraling since book 1, tho the Sansa flip feels more reactionary than thematically driven. I've seen this kind fo creative backtracking in long-running projects before and it usually signals deeper structural issues with tying everything togethr.

"I was going to have Sansa die, but she’s been so appealing in the show, maybe I’ll let her live …"

I dunno George, sounds like something you should have figured out fifteen years ago.

Seeing as Martin is not gonna finish the series anywas, none of what he says matters.
