If Martin had even the slightest amount of respect for his readers, he might consider taking on a co-author at this point; if someone were to help him get to the finish line with WINDS OF WINTER, perhaps he could even step back and let the writer of his choice do 99% of the work on A DREAM OF SPRING-- at this point, people may accept any reasonably competent ending...

Robert Jordan and GRRM ruined the multi-episode epic fantasy. Patrick Rothfuss is pretty damn close too but at least he doesn't have one foot in the grave like GRRM.
Why can't more authors be as reliable as Joe Abercrombie, Jim Butcher (though Jimmy has been slacking off lately now that he's ) or the dozens of authors I've found on Kindle Unlimited who not only have long runs but still manage to keep the quality across the series?
He's playing his fans, his agent, his publisher. I'm sure he is depressed and so forth but everything about him emanates "I am completely done and never going back." I think the great ending the TV series had (I may be the only person in the world who thinks this) has frozen his creativity - either his ending is different and not as good, or the same and not as good.
The biostellar universe feels unfinished as well. There are story arcs that still have not been finished. Are you and Vox returning to that universe? I have read all 4 books in the series and would like to see it come to conclusions. Perhaps a task for that A.I. you guys are developing.

Butcher at least finished the Pokemon in Rome series.
Nowhere in the post does Martin mention the sixth book in A Song of Ice and Fire.
Nor will he. I think he's lost the will to write that last book.
