Elizabeth Moon will appear at ArmadilloCon 48 in Austin, Texas, September 11-13, and for a writer who almost never works the convention circuit, that alone makes the show worth circling on the calendar.
Well dang, I had considered going this year, my last Armadillo Con was 1986 or so. Between her, Bruce Sterling and Rudy Rucker, there is some serious old school scifi authors in attendance.
Just across the street from the venue is the Linc, it has a lot of good places to eat. Vivo (texmex), Broken Egg (breakfast) and Easy Tiger (bar, bakery, sandwiches). Chinese, Korean, the Paris Baguette and several coffee houses are within a few blocks. Just up airport about 6 blocks is Arpeggio Grill (Greek and Pizza) and down airport is a bunch more good places including Donkey Mo's Korean (up scale chicken fingers), Jew Burger (the owner is Jewish) and at least one micro brewery. All that within a mile or so, Austin is known for the food as much as the music. I live here so if you have any specific requests, just let me know.
