Dragonlance creator Margaret Weis attempted to soothe fears that Wizards of the Coast will ruin the franchise after photo op with Joe Manganiello. This Substack is reader-supported.
If true that's not a good sign unless within the DL setting a gay main character made sense. I'm unfamiliar with DL like a hardcore fan would be but if she inserted a gay main character just because that would concern me. It all depends on if it made sense or not. Take the case of the WONDER WOMAN Ip and the Island of Thymescara. Being that its all women and women only it would not be out of place to feature gay women/couples. If however the setting is more like Feudal Japan and there is a black Samaria in it then that would be very much out of place and I would be concerned as to why someone felt it was necessary to place a black man in Feudal Japan in the role of a Samurai.
Did this gay main character feel shoved in or was there a reasonable justification for him?
I am not a Dragon Lance fan; not b/c of any dislike I just never got into it but I would absolutely be wiling to watch a series or film based on it.
This Margaret Weis is someone all DL fans should be concerned with based on her own comments featured in these tweets. When she tweeted "..so since we featured a black man Chronicles.." that was all I needed to see to know that her thinking is possibly toxic. I'd love to be wrong but this is the kind of thing a woke person would say. They immediately go on defense and assume something that as not said because of how sensitive they are to the subject. I'm not familiar with eth DL setting but if it is a setting where a black man is very much out of place then a black man should not be in it solely for the sake of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. The same is true either way. It would make no sense for Wakanda to have any white people in it unless something specific and reasonable explains it like with how the Winter Soldier was in Wakanda for a while. There was a good reason for that but if in the 1st Black Panther film, when the opening scene for Wakanda is panning over the city, if I saw a white person I would be taken aback and wanting to know why.
I know that white guilt is wide spread especially amongst the upper class white women so it's not far reaching to be concerned with er tweet. Weis may not be the same person today that she was when DL was created so I'd be very cautious with her until proven otherwise. I do hope for the fans of DL that I'm wrong and that this is a return to the DL of old and not some "for the modern audience" garbage that D&D appears to have become but Weis would not be the first creator who's had their mind rewired by the modern woke movement.
If you love it, woke retards will destroy it.
Weis seems on the level and I'd like to believe her. But I don't. In fact, didn't one of her books back in the 90s feature a gay main character?
