Haven't watched Doctor Who since Capaldi, checked out during the 9th series I believe. Loved Capaldi as the Doctor, but the stories were already mediocre at best.
As a fan I am not freaking out and I hope IF Dr Who ever comes back they fix A LOT from the New Who and Modern Who era but seeing as it’s the BBC that won’t happen. So I’m happy with it off the air.
It's sad that the future is so uncertain and I feel for Billie Piper, because she'll keep getting asked questions like this and probably barely has any answer to give. When I saw the episode, I just thought, oh okay, Billie Piper is the Sixteenth Doctor. The Sixth and Twelfth Doctors both had faces that past Doctors had met, so it didn't seem particularly canon-breaking - a tip of the hat to the past, while moving forward with a new incarnation. Having it somehow be Rose or the Bad Wolf entity feels needlessly confusing. Then again, I didn't like that David Tennant was returning to play the Fourteenth Doctor at first, but then absolutely loved all his episodes, so who knows what I'd have thought of whatever "plan" there was for the Christmas special, if any existed.
One tiny nitpick on this article, the Sea Devils' name change to "Homo Aqua" being due to the old name being 'racist' was an in-universe explanation, rather than RTD actually thinking the name was racist for whatever reason. It made sense, because the tone of that story was a little more grounded, and it'd be hard to take an species seriously if they called themselves "Sea Devils". It just wouldn't be believable.
Anyway, I hope it all gets sorted out soon. My bet is that they'll come back eventually with a new Doctor, doing a sort of fresh start, and let Big Finish do stories about a Billie Piper Doctor.
Wonder when someone will figure out that the very nature of the show allows for a complete reboot?
A secret enemy (mystery box) who created an alternate reality that the new doctor discovers. It was the lady-doc years! Capaldi is still the doctor, still on his last regeneration... They have to prevent the future from happening, OWTTE.
All the bits from the past 2 doctors that are not completely phony & degenerate get folded back into the story line, the ones that are get thwarted in the next two - three seasons.

Fans need to "chill out?" No worries, Billie, they've done better than that-- they've CHECKED OUT...
Doctor Who... gives a shit anymore?

Another show ruined by wammen and an obnoxious Star Wars name.

Sure, Jan.
The good doctor will soon be caught in a time loop. One that will be broken when BBC wants to write compelling science fiction again.
