Andy Serkis is directing The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, and when the BBC asked him directly why the announced cast is entirely white, he didn’t reach for the answer most franchise executives give right now.

Can we, for the love of God, stop making Lord of The Rings movies? Don't get me wrong, I love Tolkien's books and have all of them, but what we don't need is a perpetual franchise made out of his works. Instead of trying to make a movie about Beren and Luthien, or Nin a Hin Huren, or the fleshed out and fully functioning Silmarillion, we are taking paragraphs from the book and trying to make three hour movies out it.
Just like Marvel did for the Superheros and Disney did for Star Wars, I'm burned out on Middle Earth. I usually reread the four books once every three years. I won't be doing that this year, because it's been done to death.
Why can't Hollywood create a fantasy movie that doesn't require a franchise?
I've heard they rely on brand recognition as "safe" even when said brand failed to make money. Blade Runner was listed as one of those: two movies and neither made money at the theater even if eventual sales/rentals turned a profit.
This guy made the abomination that was the recent 1984 [correction: Animal Farm] "adaptation."
If he's saying this now, it's only because he is reading the room and actively slithering upon his belly to ingratiate and decieve.
The man is every bit as vile and two-faced as the loathsome creature Gollum. No wonder he was so perfect for that role--he's had a lifetime of speaking out of both sides of his mouth.
While a fortunate outcome, it doesn't matter nor should it change anyone's outlook on the film or it's creator. It is still the same left-wing Andy Serkis, former member of the Socialist Workers Party, who recently turned the anti communist Animal Farm into a anti capitalist manifesto. Words like describing the Shire as very, very white with the inhabitants not wanting to let people in just have a different ring to it spoken by a person like that. I have no faith in Serkis nor this project.

I loved Black Panther when it first came out, but I kind of despise it now.
