The GoodReads Choice Awards is an award bracket run by Amazon to try to promote books in several different categories, but one YouTuber noticed a startling trend that white males are discriminated against within the nominees.
The GoodReads Choice Awards advertises itself as something voted upon by readers, advertising on X, “After more than 6.2 million votes across 2 rounds on 300 nominated books, we have the 15 winners of the 2024 Goodreads Choice Awards, all chosen by YOU, the readers.”
While readers might vote on the final round, the way to get nominated is a nebulous process controlled by Amazon’s algorithm, at least so they say. According to Goodreads, in an article about which books are eligible, it says, “‘The Goodreads Choice Awards (GCAs) nominates books based on statistics from the millions of books that are added, rated, and reviewed on Goodreads each year.”
